Game Recap

The Southeast Boys Soccer team defeated the Waterloo Vikings on Tuesday night in Atwater. The Pirates out shot the Vikings 12 to 4 in the first half but could never find the net. In the second half, the Pirate defense made many key clearances to keep the score level, deep into the game. With 18:03 on the clock, Senior Noah Fisher crossed in a corner that veered toward the back post. As heavy traffic entered the box, the ball skimmed off of the Viking keeper for the first goal of the game. With a goal on the board, the game opened up, leading to many breakaways for both teams. Pirate defender Jacob Mix won many key one-on-one battles to keep Waterloo off the board. Late in the game, Southeast’s Tristan Dietz sent in a cross that defected it’s way to Pirate midfielder John Leitzel. From 30 yards out, Leitzel volleyed the ball top shelf to give the Pirates the 2-0 lead. As the game came to a close, Waterloo earned a penalty kick which Senior defender Ben Luli placed in, making the final 2-1.The win fuels Southeast’s streak of good play, as they are now 3-0-2 in their last five matches.
